World Oceans Day 2021 'The Ocean 'Life and Livelihoods' No water, no life.’ - Sylvia Earle June 8th 2021 marks an important day worldwide - World Oceans Day. This year the United Nations theme, The Ocean: Live and Livelihoods sheds a light on the wonder of the ocean and how it is our life source supporting humanity and every organism on Earth. World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, and later recognised by the United Nations in 2008.  The International day supports the implementation of worldwide sustainable development goals and is a way to celebrate the ocean and to raise awareness about important ways people can help to protect it.
