Once again, diveOceanus proves itself to be a notch above the rest, winning the South Asian Travel Awards' (SATA) Gold Award for South Asia’s Leading Dive Center 2020. This is the fourth feather in the cap of diveOceanus as South Asia’s Leading Dive Center. Awards previously won by the brand include Leading Dive Center South Asia Award in 2016,2017 and 2018.
The multi award-winning brand is owned and operated by VillaHotels, in association with PADI 5 star dive centers, Prior to the rebranding in 2012, diveOceanus was known as Villa Diving, and was founded in Holiday Island Resort & Spa in 2003. Following the revamping, they brought essential changes to the dive center by enhancing existing operations, updating and maintaining safety standards and elevating the quality of their services.
When SATA announced award categories for dive brands in 2016, diveOceanus had already launched their manager in training programs which trained and retained their existing local staff. By 2018, diveOceanus had reached the milestone of becoming a 100% locally operated and perhaps the only locally owned, managed and operated brand in the Maldives. By the beginning of 2020, 72% of the team consisted of Maldivians, with the brand priding itself for being local centric and environmentally conscious.
Mohamed Seeneen, the Director of Operations at diveOceanus, who joined the venture as a Training Coordinator at Villa Diving in 2011, worked his way up to his current position. "We rebranded, had our own training programs so that new instructors could find their way within the company to management levels. If there was any new development in the diving industry, we jumped on the opportunity to improve ourselves we broke our own student training/certification records twice in 2019. Currently, we are in the process of becoming a 95% paperless dive center trials are ongoing at Royal Island which we intend to apply at all of our operations.
The dive teams have been providing Freediver training also Sidemount courses with XDEEP setups. An all-time favorite with shore dives are the SUEX DPVs or the Diver Proppletion Vehicles which are on offer for trials and specialty training we continue to educate enhance enrich our instructors so that each Discover Scuba Diving experience is a guaranteed continued education for our students.
diveOceanus conducts its operations with the intrinsic value of ensuring the safety of our clients. We continue to participate in several major international dive fairs and will remain focused on providing eco conscious diving education in the coming years.
